Not sure if I dare to say this, but with VM Ware Workstation 7, now XP x64 seems to be OK with using a bit of memory. The start-up of the system in the morning can feel a bit slow, but after that I don't notice much of the disk activities here. The 8 GB of RAM seems to be utilised in a half decent way actually. With VM Ware Workstation 6, swapping was a bit of an annoyance. I could really notice it.
I've just started to put together a new 'puter (what seems an unfamiliar concept to a certain mr J, who goes to a posh store to buy them ready-made), and I might give Windows 7 a try on that.
Though I'm tempted to start off with good old XP, and go to 7 in a little while. Would be wasting some memory while running XP, but I also don't need to buy a license for 7 :-D

LOL, at least you managed to swap out a lot of stuff. Always amazes me how much Windows manages to swap out, even when it's not doing anything :-/

So you think running Windows 7 would NOT be a way of wasting memory?? ;-)
You could do what I've done and upgrade to XP x64, the 64 bit version of XP... Only problem is I don't think you can buy it any longer.
